When Detroit Steel Was King
A song lamenting the car industry in Detroit
~~~~
When Detroit Steel Was King
I was in downtown Detroit
Just came out from the Tigers playing the Braves
That's when you rolled in your 1955 Chevrolet
Back in the day
When Detroit steel was king
You gave me a glance
And your eyes locked on to me
"Honey, pop in or gonna miss the show
Let me show you
What this beautiful car can do
Hard working Americans
Hear it that engine purr
Those where the days
When Detroit steel was king"
When Detroit steel was king
When Rock n'Roll was pure and young
But now nothing is the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
Everything seems to be on the decline
In America
Heading back to ATL on the I-75
And we started lamenting on the those days
When Detroit steel had it's crown
When Detroit steel was king
And nothing had been the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
Maybe it was the politicians
Maybe it was the unions
Maybe it was the companies
Whatever it was one thing is true
Nothing has been the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
And I remember the days
When the working man
Worked on steel
When all might dollar
Meant something more
Oh those were the days
When Detroit steel was king
When Detroit steel was king
When Rock n'Roll was pure and young
But now nothing is the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
Everything seems to be on the decline
In America
And I left Detroit behind
It's a shame
Could've had an amazing opportunity
Working with Detroit steel
But Detroit steel left town
And with it the soul of America's car industry
Maybe it was the politicians
Maybe it was the unions
Maybe it was the companies
Whatever it was one thing is true
Nothing has been the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
And Detroit lost it's crown
And I remember the days
When the working man
Worked on steel
When all might dollar
Meant something more
Oh those were the days
When Detroit steel was king
Every since Detroit steel left town
It seems like we've been on the decline
Every since Detroit steel left town
Nothing has been the same
Every since Detroit steel left
It's lost it's crown
Maybe it was the politicians
Maybe it was the unions
Maybe it was the companies
Whatever it was one thing is true
Nothing has been the same
Every since Detroit steel left town
And Detroit lost it's crown
And I left Detroit behind
It's a shame
Could've had an amazing opportunity
Working with Detroit steel
But Detroit steel left town
And with it the soul of America's car industry
